Certified Translator, Terminologist and Interpreter: Titles of responsibility

OTTIAQ certification is not available to just anyone. All members of the Order must satisfy specific requirements and possess the necessary skills, which are outlined in the competency profiles.

As a professional order, OTTIAQ has a mandate to protect the public. This is accomplished by:

• Enforcing rigorous certification standards
• Ensuring its members observe the Professional Code, the Code of Ethics and the various OTTIAQ regulations
• Monitoring the practice of its professions through its professional inspection program

Therefore, the public is well advised to seek out the services of a Certified Translator, Certified Terminologist or Certified Interpreter, since the use of the title is a guarantee of quality.

Handling Complaints

Anyone wishing to file a complaint against a member of the Order may do so by contacting the syndic, whose role is to ensure that members observe OTTIAQ regulations. The syndic is empowered to investigate the conduct of certified members. Following such an investigation, the syndic can either bring the complaint before the Disciplinary Committee or try to get both parties to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement.
